Who We Are and What We Work On

The Areas We Cover

We're based at 1056 Emerald Bay Rd in South Lake Tahoe, and most of our calls come from right around the lake basin. Meyers is about 7 miles up the road, Tahoma runs closer to 12, and if you're out toward Markleeville or Dollar Point you're looking at close to 19 miles either way. Kit Carson is about 16 miles south, and the Nevada-California state line sits roughly 2 miles southwest of the shop, so we're working both sides of it regularly.

The housing stock across these areas is mostly 1960s and 70s construction, and our service area specifically skews to homes built between 1972 and 1978, with the median build year landing around 1973. That matters for garage doors because a lot of these houses still have their original torsion spring setups, sized for door widths and track configurations that newer hardware doesn't always match without some adapting. We see a lot of single-panel steel doors with hardware that was standard forty-plus years ago and isn't standard now.

We don't cover every town in the Sierra, and if you're well outside this radius it's worth asking before you book, since drive time changes what we can offer same-day.

Contacting Us

Call us at (530) 239-0890. That's the fastest way to get a real answer about your door, whether it's a broken cable, a spring that let go, or an opener that's stopped responding to the remote. We're located at 1056 Emerald Bay Rd, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150, and that's also where you'd come if you needed to drop off or pick up a part.

We'd rather talk through what's wrong on the phone first. A door that won't open could be a snapped spring, a broken cable, a misaligned track, or a dead opener board, and each of those is a different job with a different parts list. Telling us what you're seeing and hearing - does it bind partway up, does the opener hum without moving the door, is there a bang you heard before it quit - helps us bring the right spring size and the right cable length on the first trip instead of a second one.

There's more information at our home page (/) if you want to look around before calling.

After You Call

Once we know what's wrong, we give you a time window and we bring the parts we expect to need based on what you've described. For a lot of homes in this area - built in that 1972-1978 stretch - that means stocking the older torsion spring wind and the wider roller sizes that newer doors don't use anymore. We can't promise every obscure part is on the truck already; sometimes a job turns into two visits because a specific bracket or a discontinued opener board has to come from a supplier first. We'll tell you straight if that's the case instead of guessing and leaving you stuck.

Cold is part of the job up here. The climate band this area sits in is severe, and steel tracks contract, lubricant stiffens, and springs lose tension faster in that kind of cold than they would somewhere milder. If your door's been fine all summer and starts sticking or groaning once the temperature drops, that's usually not a coincidence - it's the cold finding the weak point in old hardware.

We'll walk you through what we found, what it costs to fix versus replace, and leave the decision with you. A door past a certain age with a bent track and a shot opener is sometimes money better spent on a new door than another round of patches.

Frequently asked questions

Do you come out to Meyers or Tahoma?

Yes. Meyers is about 7 miles from our shop and Tahoma is around 12, both within our regular service radius. Markleeville and Dollar Point are each close to 19 miles out, so those calls take a bit longer to schedule same-day, but we still take them.

Why does my spring keep breaking every winter?

This area sits in a severe cold climate band, and steel springs lose tension faster in sustained cold. If your house was built in the 1972-1978 range common around here, the spring may also just be original and due for replacement regardless of the weather.

Do you carry parts for older doors on the truck?

We stock what fits the torsion hardware common to homes built in the 1960s-70s across this area, since that's most of what we see. Some older or discontinued opener boards still need to be special-ordered, and we'll tell you upfront if that's the case.

Where are you located?
